Briefs: Dennison street sweeping, TUFF Bags Gala, accordion music
DENNISON − The village of Dennison will be sweeping the streets beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The downtown area and north end will be swept Tuesday and the south side and Thornwood Park area will be swept Wednesday.
The main business area (Grant Street) will be taken care of first on Tuesday to avoid any disruption with businesses. Residents should remove their vehicles from the streets by 6 a.m. and keep them off the streets until their street has been swept. BOLIVAR − The second annual TUFF (Tuscarawas United Feeding Our Future) Bags Gala will be 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Wilkshire Event Center, 474 Jeanne Anne Lane, featuring dinner, a cash bar, live music, live artist, and silent and live auctions. DOVER – The Tuscarawas County Beekeepers Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Lutheran Church Outreach Center, 208 N. Wooster Ave. This is a separate building from the church. Peggy Garnes, president of Ohio State Beekeepers Association, will present Overwintering Nucleus Colonies. Bring your own snacks and/or drinks.
DOVER – Dover native Joe Warther will present a program The World Needs Some Happy Music at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St. He will play his accordion and talk about the history of the instrument. Warther and Dave Pensy of Magnolia will perform several of Pensy’s original compositions.

DOVER − The Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market will host a Hispanic Heritage Celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds.
From 5 to 7 p.m., watch a traditional Guatemalan weaving technique. Weavings will be available for purchase. At 5 p.m., a cooking demo inside the Clover Café will show how to make chuchitos, small Guatemalan tamales of corn dough. Free samples will be offered to attendees of the cooking demo. Students from the Adelante Arts Camp will perform live music beginning at 5 p.m.
NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County YMCA will hold its 22nd annual Jack Marsh Memorial Golf Outing on Aug. 17, at Oak Shadows Golf Club. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m. All profits from the event support the YMCA’s annual campaign, which provides direct financial assistance for Y membership and programs to local youth and families.
During the outing, teams of four amateur golfers will compete in an 18-hole scramble. In addition, teams compete in an orange ball game and have chances to win prizes at game holes and hole-in-one contests throughout the course. A light breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee. Snacks and drinks are provided throughout the day, and a steak dinner will be served as dine-in or carryout at the conclusion of play.
